I ask why must we sacrifice our comfort, our values, our digital privacy to stay connected. When we want to disconnect we still have to log on to find the moves for the weekend. But we dont have too, we cant let fomo win. I say no more algorithm calendars. no more being sold where to go. no more not knowing if a party is for queer black or brown folk. No more pulling up to the function and nobody looks like you. No more seeing an event flyer 2 weeks after its posted. This is more than just a "what to do this weekend" ahh website. It is the call to action for the active participation of the event producer, party goer, the dancer, the dj and the host. We all play a part in third spaces and deserve spaces that make us feel safe, comfortable and seen. When What Where (Me & everyone who helps me) has no stake in where you spend your Saturday night. We just hope you go somewhere queer and black/brown. We ask you to show out the events we share through this platform. Make the rooms look like the community it intends to center. Sell out the events that don't want to steal your money in the name of a shared identity. If we’re gonna go outside & spend our time, energy and cash, let's do it with intention and integrity.When What Where is an event index intended to disseminate information on queer black and brown events in Chicago, to queer black and brown people. Simple. There is a vetting process to ensure that we maintain the integrity of this goal. Please see the sign up form! We aren't marketing to queer yt people, and we won't, if this makes you uncomfortable, well…sit with that. Bestie and Boobear shouldn't come everywhere with you and shouldn't know everything about when, what and where your black and brown comrades will be at or doing. Some events center certain people & that doesn't mean complete exclusion but that does mean be aware of the space you're taking up especially when the space is not centering you (cough cough yt queers at the blackest/brownest event you can think of).These events are compiled through research, event submissions & reviews so please share your thoughts with us via our submissions forms!
